REVIEW: Heist Society

Heist Society (Heist Society, #1)Heist Society by Ally Carter
Pages: 287-US Hardback
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Released: February 9, 2010
My Rating: 5/5
Book Summary: When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre…to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria…to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own—scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.

Soon, Kat's friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring Kat back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has a good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat's father isn't just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.

For Kat, there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it's a spectacularly impossible job? She's got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family's history--and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way. -goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Talk about one hell of a good story. i for one have to decided to take on the life of a full-time thief. Is there a class i can take?

Katarina Bishop has jumped to the top of my list of favorite female characters, and boy did she jump with amazing grace and speed. Not only is she a complete and total badass, but she has the most incredible devotion to her family. The risks she is willing to take to save her father are admirable to say the least. Plus, it doesn't hurt that her partner in crime happens to be my newest fictional character boy crush.

It just feels like such a real and believable storyline. The detail and history inside is beautifully written and SO FREAKIN' COOL! Whether or not any of the information is true, it's a story i loved to live in.

Heist Society is a book that sinks its claws into you and refuses to let go. It's full of humor, intrigue, witty remarks, the perfect villain, and a fantastical blooming love story.  I can't wait to see what is in store for Hale and Kat!

REVIEW: Twenties Girl

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella
Twenties GirlPages: 432 pages- Hardcover
Publisher: Bantem Press
Publication: November 16th,2009
My Rating: 3.5/5
Book Summary: Lara Lington has always had an overactive imagination, but suddenly that imagination seems to be in overdrive. Normal professional twenty-something young women don’t get visited by ghosts. Or do they? When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie–a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance–mysteriously appears, she has one last request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, and Sadie cannot rest without it.

My Thoughts:
This novel definitely got me back into Adult Fiction. I have been away for some time, reading pretty much YA or anything Paranormal. Its good to be back. I was obsessed with Sophie Kinsella's Confessions of a Shopaholic series, so I thought it was only logical to try this book. I really did enjoy it. Being such a long book, it was packed with detail which at some times can be overwhelming but it definitely suited this story. Sophie's wit and humor shines through her writing, which makes for a really enjoyable easy read.

Even though this book essentially is about the paranormal, it really centers on the relationship between Lara and her Great-Aunt Sadie. Sadie being my favorite ghostly character just about of all time is so spunky, she cracked me up with every sentence. I absolutely adored how Sophie drew so much culture from the 1920s. Such a glamorous era! I also looooooved how much Sadie cared for fashion. The description of the dresses were so detailed I could practically feel the fabric between my finger tips!

Positive parts aside, I rated this book a 3.5 for a reason. The story felt super jumbled. Lara would be rambling about how much she needed to find this necklace then she would totally switch gears and start obsessing over her ex. Now I understand this technique was probably used to make Lara feel more real , but honestly it irritated me. Lara was so naive and obsessive over her ex that I found myself finding her SUPER ANNOYING at times like I feel about real girls who do the same thing. I'd say if you enjoyed Confessions of a Shopahilic, then i'd definitely give this book a try.

REVIEW: Divergent

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Divergent (Divergent, #1)Pages: 496- ARC
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Book (HarperCollins)
Publication: May 3rd, 2011
My Rating: 5/5
Book Summary:In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

My Thoughts:
This is hands down my favorite book of 2011! I love love love Veronica Roth! Brava, Miss Roth, your debut novel is absolutely fabulous! This story was so fast-paced, I was sitting up straight holding the book super tight the whole way through! I very much enjoyed her world, dividing society into separate factions to make one community is a very interesting concept. The fact that Chicago was once the city they inhabit is super cool, considering it is one of my favorites!

Beatrice Prior is a BAD ASS. I am so loving her outrageous sense of courage. I mean this chick is ruthless. I almost kinda maybe wish I was her. I can't really say too much without giving the goods away but I really am amazed at how well her character progressed. Her transition from quiet, obedient girl to mega-vibrant and brazen woman was surprisingly swift and seemingly natural. I can honestly  say Beatrice is my new favorite character. I love her through and through.

I must admit when I first began reading this book I didn't expect detailed action scenes. I figured that the good part was gonna be the drama, and I will honestly say I was wrong. The action scenes in this book really got my nerves going. I felt anxious through every thrilling scene. I absolutely love books that can make me anxious. I read this book all too fast and I really cannot wait for the next book in this series. This may be the first series I have gotten obsessive about since Blue Bloods. I couldn't be more excited for your next masterpiece Veronica Roth. This book is exactly what I have been looking to read. Non-stop action and deep, heartfelt character interaction. Definitely deserves my 5 stars! Its out now guys, pick it up at your local bookstores like RIGHT NOW.

NEW TATTOO! YAY :-D

So about two weeks ago one of my best friends Monika and I were out eating lunch and we just randomly got the lets-get-a-tattoo impulse of course the next day we got one! We went to an awesome little shop in a nearby downtown area, where I had the best experience ever. Seriously I had so much fun! The shops apprentice was this awesome big beefy guy who was talking about how much he loved Christine Feehan, I about died! But anyways here it is, still kinda swollen

I decided to get a dream catcher for protection for the three most important people in my life. I also chose it because I have always been a very vivid, and sometimes even lucid dreamer so I figured I could use some protection on that level as well. I have 5 already and am itching to get more! Tattoos are really a great and unique way to express yourself. Do you guys have any tattoos? Sharing time!!

REVIEW: Ultraviolet

Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson
Ultraviolet
Bomb Ass Cover ^
Pages: 416- UK Paperback
Publisher: Lerner Publishing Group
Expected Publication: June 2nd, 2011
My Rating: 4/5
Book Summary: Sixteen-year-old Alison has been sectioned in a mental institute for teens, having murdered the most perfect and popular girl at school. But the case is a mystery: no body has been found, and Alison's condition is proving difficult to diagnose. Alison herself can't explain what happened: one minute she was fighting with Tori -- the next she disintegrated. Into nothing. But that's impossible. Right?

My Thoughts:
Oh. My. God. This book is unlike anything I have ever read. It is one of the first books that I read on an ereader. Actually its on my phone, because I refuse to buy one of those things. I fell in love with this book after reading the summary. Usually what draws me to a story is the connections with the characters I build in the first chapter or so, but for the first time ever I was drawn to the actual story.

Alison is probably the most unique character I have ever gotten the chance to get to know. The thing that makes her so different is so unbelievably original, I am positive there isn't any other book out there like this one. (If there is, let me know! I'd love to read another one!) Another thing that really shocked me was how much I LOVED the story and the action but really didn't care too much about Alison. Her quirks and oddities is what initially got me hooked, but at the end of the book I realized that she was my least favorite part. I felt like although she was so awesomely unique she definitely could have had WAY MORE depth to her. I felt like I just barely grazed the surface of Alison.

This book being 416 pages, I finished it lightning fast in only a day or so, I couldn't get enough. The story sucked me in by the first chapter and I was already recommending it to everyone I came across. Every book I read I can pretty much figure out the twist half-way through, and I was right with this one but it was written in such a stellar way that I was still shocked when the truth came out. Overall great flipping read! Y'all best be at the store on June 2nd to get this one, it for sure has made my list of most anticipated releases of 2011!
